MEMI Therapy in Singapore
MEMI is a gentle, evidence-based approach to healing trauma and emotional distress without needing you to relive the past.
What is MEMI Therapy?
MEMI (Multichannel Eye Movement Integration) is a modern, trauma-informed therapy developed from a fusion of Eye Movement Integration (EMI) and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). It works with multiple channels of the mind and body (e.g. the senses, brain, and nervous system) to help individuals process difficult experiences and find lasting calm.
MEMI is grounded in the understanding that our memories, emotions, and physical reactions are all structured and stored by the brain through our senses. By engaging these sensory channels through specific eye movements, MEMI helps the brain reorganise and reprocess difficult memories so they can be remembered without being relived.
After a MEMI session, most people find they can recall the event with significantly less distress. The memory remains but the emotional charge softens.

How MEMI Therapy Works
Every MEMI session is guided by a gentle protocol designed to ensure safety, comfort, and meaningful progress at your pace.
Together, we identify what’s distressing you — a stressful memory, a physical sensation, or a recurring feeling. You then rate its intensity accordingly to giving us a clear starting point to measure change.
Before any eye movements begin, we establish a positive anchor to keep you grounded throughout the process.
Your therapist guides your eyes through sets of smooth horizontal, vertical, and diagonal sweeps across the visual field. You simply follow these exercises while maintaining awareness of the distressing issue. Between sets, we pause and reassess.
After each round, you re-rate the distress level. Most clients notice the numbers decrease naturally. Additional eye movement sets continue until the issue feels manageable.
The session closes with a positive reinforcement and practical aftercare guidance.
In the days after the session, the brain continues to reconsolidate and reprocess the information.
How Many Sessions Do I Need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the nature and complexity of what you’re working through. Single-incident traumas (such as an accident or an adverse event) often respond quickly, sometimes within one to three sessions.
Complex or developmental trauma are multifaceted and typically require multiple sessions to resolve each layer of trauma.
Many people notice positive shifts in the very first session. Your therapist will reassess regularly and work with you to determine an appropriate rhythm and pace.
Unlike open-ended talk therapy, MEMI is designed to be focused and efficient. Most clients see a course of treatment measured in sessions rather than years.
Do I have to talk about what happened?
Unlike traditional talk therapy, MEMI therapy is content-free. You never have to describe what happened or share details you’d rather keep private. You hold the memory or feeling in mind privately, without speaking it aloud. Your therapist does not need to know what it is.
Instead, your therapist guides your eyes through structured movement patterns while you hold the distressing experience in mind. The brain does the rest.
This makes MEMI particularly well-suited for those who find verbal recounting overwhelming, retraumatising, or simply feel strongly about keeping their experiences private.
Your brain leads the process while your therapist guides the eye movements.

Is MEMI therapy suitable for me?
MEMI suits adults, adolescents and children alike who experience recurring emotional distress, intrusive memories, anxiety, or chronic stress linked to past experiences. It is also helpful for professionals in high-pressure fields such as healthcare workers, executives, educators who seek calmness in their lives.
Because it is content-free and client-paced, MEMI is appropriate even for those who have found traditional talk therapy too intense, or who have not found the relief they hoped for through verbal approaches. If you’ve felt stuck, MEMI offers a different path forward.
Your therapist will discuss your history and goals before any session begins to ensure MEMI is the right fit for your needs.
